Middle East steppe

Description

Open shrub-steppe; extensive areas of sparse bushy cover crossed by riparian woodlands in places. Dominant shrubs and grasses are Artemisia herba-alba and Poa bulbosa, with pockets of Ferula communis and Zizyphus lotus. Stonier soils support Haloxylon scoparia. Areas near water support Tamarix spp., Populus euphratica, and Phragmites spp.

Biome:

Generally sparse coverage, occasionally forming clumps

Trees: Tamarisk (locally)

Grass mix: grass, small_fescue, common_meadow_grass, kentucky_bluegrass, lush_grass

Large patches of wormwood, often dominant where the soil is deeper

Scattered sweet_grass, horse_chestnut_tree_sapling and wild_shrub

Also, clumps of wild_shrub in rockier areas

H2b (riparian zones):

Trees: Desert Poplar and Tamarisk, often forming thickets

Large communities of dry_reeds
