Alpine grasslands in the Alps (Mouse-ear Kobresia, White Alpine Sedge, Carex ferruginea, Carex firma) with herbs and lichens on carbonate rocks

Description

Two-layered more or less continuous grasslands with dominant gramineous and grass species in the herb layer and with lichens and mosses distributed in the moss layer. The Seslerio-Caricetum sempervirentis grows on steep slopes (50°) of the alpine and subalpine belt. Due to the rocky ground of the carbonate rich "rocky mountains" (compared to the silicate "grass mountains"), areas with grassy lawns are only present to a small extent, where on larger plains formation of the appropriate soil is possible, or on steeper slopes lime slates are present. The lawns are much more often ”stepped” and interspersed by stones (particularly alpine grasslands).
