A contiguous vegetation coverage is absent. The scree vegetation consists of widely scattered individual vascular plants. On sandy-gravelly sites, cushions of individual vascular plants and low mosses are present. At snow-poor locations on the surfaces of silicate rocks, saxicole communities with Umbilicaria proboscidea and other lichens grow. The stone niches are colonised by a number of mosses. Racomitrium lanuginosum covers snow-richer sites (where snow melts at the end of June). At sites that quickly become free of snow, under the protection of stones, individual cushions of Dicranum elongatum, Stereocaulon vesuvianum and 2-3 species of vascular plants are present, e.g. Luzula confusa. Limestone plateaux (especially rock surfaces) are almost vegetation-free, only with occasionally standing individuals of Saxifraga oppositifolia, Papaver dahlianum, Phippsia algida or Cerastium regelii as characteristic species.
